Berkat Safety Supports Feeding and Learning Center in Tuapene

Education plays an important role in building a better future for children. However, for children living in remote areas, access to education and basic needs can still be a challenge.

Through its support for the Feeding and Learning Center (FLC) in Tuapene, Berkat Safety contributes to the Tangan Pengharapan Foundation’s efforts to support children in Timor Tengah Selatan, East Nusa Tenggara.

Getting to Know the Feeding and Learning Center in Tuapene

FLC Tuapene is a program that combines learning activities and food support for children.  Activities at the center focus not only on academic learning. The documentation shows various activities such as writing, drawing, group learning, and direct guidance from teachers.

Alongside learning activities, feeding is also an important part of the program. Children receive food and drinks while sharing moments together with their teachers and friends.

The Story of a Teacher in Rural Tuapene

Behind these activities is the story of Sisilia Nawa Kota, a local teacher who has served at FLC Tuapene since July 2022.

Teaching in a remote area has taught Sisilia valuable lessons about independence and patience. During the dry season, for example, she has to walk several kilometers to collect clean water after completing her teaching activities.

She has also learned from the local community, including how to process sorghum and make use of locally available resources. These experiences have shown her that education does not only take place inside the classroom, but also through interaction and positive examples in everyday life.

Education as a Foundation for the Future

For Sisilia, being a teacher means more than simply sharing knowledge. Teachers are also expected to set an example of responsibility, perseverance, and determination in facing challenges.

This reflects the vision of the Tangan Pengharapan Foundation to help build a generation and society that is faithful, intelligent, and strong in character.
