Story from a Teacher at FLC Tuapene My name is Oma Afertiana Liunima, a local teacher at the Feeding and Learning Center (FLC) in Tuapene. As a preschool teacher, my responsibility is to teach, train, and guide young children who need support in order to grow and develop well in both character and knowledge. This way, the students can effectively learn basic knowledge, motor skills, social skills, and adaptive abilities. I teach early childhood students using appropriate teaching methods and techniques, along with various tools and materials. I use stories, drama, music, and discussions to help develop their language and vocabulary. I also encourage them to ask questions and explore. |
Listening to children — including interpreting their words and actions — is part of understanding each child's individual needs. In addition to my role at school, I am also a homemaker who must fulfill responsibilities at home. A mother is like a manager who must organize all household matters — from the simplest, such as preparing meals from morning to night, sweeping, and cleaning the yard, to more complex issues. A mother must unite all family members who each have different personalities. |
Moreover, a mother must guide her family so that everyone moves in the same direction. A mother is like a teacher who must educate her children to be intelligent and well-mannered. Just like a teacher, a mother plays a vital role in her children’s development. A mother must become a role model because children tend to imitate the attitudes and behaviors of their parents. Being a mother is one of the highest-paid jobs — because the reward is pure love. Besides teaching and being a homemaker, I also participate in a local small business group (UMKM) to develop myself and support my family’s economy. We process local resources such as bananas, cassava, and coconuts. We turn bananas and cassava into chips, and we make virgin coconut oil (VCO) from coconuts. We sell these products every Sunday. This activity has really helped me improve my family’s economy. I hope this can become a good example for the children I teach. This is my story. |
