Every child, no matter where they are, deserves the chance to reach for their dreams. So does Ista Kono, a young girl who lives with her father, mother, and younger sister in the village of Oeekam. Even though their home is in a remote and distant area, Ista has an extraordinary passion for pursuing her education.

Every day, she walks approximately two kilometers to reach her school, Paud Tangan Pengharapan Tuapene, located in the Fatukopa Subdistrict, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Ista wasn’t someone who stood out at first, but who would have thought that her strong spirit and determination would bring about such an incredible transformation within her?

In her early days in class, Ista was known as a rather quiet child. But over time, she began to build her confidence. She started to perform in front of the class when asked by her teacher and formed close bonds with her classmates. In terms of achievement, Ista is known as a bright and diligent student.

While her classmates were still learning to pronounce individual letters, Ista was already able to spell words with more than one syllable. Her enthusiasm for learning made her stand out in class, but what is most admirable is her humility. Even though she often ranked among the best, Ista never became arrogant. Instead, she eagerly helped her friends who were struggling with their lessons. For Ista, sharing knowledge is an essential part of the learning process.

Ista’s drive to learn and excel is not only fueled by her academic ability but also by a deep sense of gratitude. She is truly thankful to be able to attend Paud Tangan Pengharapan Tuapene, a place that gives her the opportunity to grow and learn. Every school day, Ista is always enthusiastic—not only because she wants to gain more knowledge, but because she knows that education is the key to a better future.

Ista Kono’s story is a true example of how an unquenchable spirit and determination can overcome all obstacles. Even though she lives far from the hustle and bustle, Ista proves that education is a right for every child, and no matter the distance, the passion for learning will always find a way to reach its goal. Her dream is to become a midwife. Ista’s spirit to keep learning and striving to be the best is a light that will continue to shine, inspiring many others around her.
